- As a cryogenic liquid in insulated tanks.
- In pipelines.
- Combined with other molecules to make other liquids and gases that can generally be less expensively transported (e.g., ammonia, methane, methanol, formic acid, various hydrocarbons).
- In underground natural gas storage fields.
- In underground salt caverns.
